The explicit inclusion of vishwas (trust belief) in the slogan is telling. It is an understanding of politics that is based on the personal popularity of Modi, and the trust that voters have placed in him. One can juxtapose this trust based conception of politics against one of democratic accountability, wherein voters place well defined demands on the elected representative and support him her based on the fulfilment of these demands. I call this accountability based model the politics of vikas (development) because it is common to claim that politicians and leaders are judged on economic delivery. In contrast to this view of accountability based voter behaviour in India, I wish to develop a model of vishwas, and how it structures politics which I believe is helpful in understanding the current moment in Indian politics. The overturning of historical empirical patterns on elections is straightforwardly associated with the centralisation of political power in the Modi government. This centralisation, and the extraordinary level of support for Narendra Modi and the BJP, is a natural outcome of the politics of vishwas. This is a form of personal politics in which voters prefer to centralise political power in a strong leader, and trust the leader to make good decisions for the polity in contrast to the standard models of democratic accountability and issue based politics, which place power in the hands of citizenry.

New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday removed Kumar Vishwas as the party s Rajasthan in charge and announced a new person to the post. Reports said Deepak Bajpai has been appointed as the new AAP in charge in Rajasthan. Kumar Vishwas was made the Rajasthan AAP chief last year but sources within the party said the top leadership was not satisfied with the work he was doing. The relations between AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal and Vishwas have been cold of late and the disgruntled leader has been at odds with the party leadership over a host of issues.Earlier this year, the AAP had denied Vishwas nomination to the Rajys Sabha. Following the development, Vishwas, who is also a poet, had taken a dig at his close friend Kejriwal: "In the last one and half years, I spoke the truth whether it is Arvind Kejriwal's decisions or issues like surgical strike, irregularities in ticket distribution, softness towards extremists in Punjab, JNU incident among others, for which I have been rewarded in the form of punishment for speaking the truth. I think that it is a moral victory of a true revolutionary, poet and friend."
The reason behind this decision, AAP said, was that Kumar was not able to ;devote; time in the poll bound state where the party wants to contest for the first time.PTI quoted AAP national spokesperson Ashutosh as saying, "Deepak Bajpai will be the in charge of the Assembly elections in Rajasthan. Kumar Vishwas was not able to devote time for election preparations due to his preoccupations. "
The workers of the party, address the leaders as 'Ji,; but they address me with 'Kumar Bhaiya; and this is my strength in the party. It is a party of thousands of workers, who work very hard to make an impact,; he said. These revelations were made by Kumar Vishwas on a popular show on India TV, Aap Ki Adalat. Over the last few days, leaders of the AAP party are engaged in a war of words of war over the Rajya Sabha candidate selection process. AAP;s Delhi convenor Gopal Rai had slammed Vishwas, who was disgruntled as he was was not picked for the Rajya Sabha candidacy. Gopal Rai had said that ;how can a person who attacks the party at every possible platform be sent to Rajya Sabha.;He had also referred to the video of the rebel leader where he talks about the corruption in the government. He had said that the reason behind the video was to scuttle AAP 's chances in the Municipal polls. Notably, the party had lost the elections to BJP. However, the rebel leader had maintained his stand and had tweeted, "The voice of this video was, is and will remain on top for me, despite the cost I had to pay recently. I will never compromise on any stand in this video, even if more sacrifices are needed in future, because it 's not just me, it 's We, The Nation "
Sisodia also said that discussion on 10 AAP leaders also took place but, apart from the name of Kumar Vishwas, there was no general consensus. Other leaders included Dilip Pandey, Deepak Vajpayee, Ashutosh, Raghav Chaddha and Pankaj Gupta. To avoid groupism within the party, AAP decided to look out for outsiders. Sisodia said there was a consensus on the name of Sanjaya Singh. Vishwas was sidelined because he had been questioning Kejriwal for the last one and a half years.Vishwas strongly reacted to the rejection of his claim after Sisodia announced the three names Sanjay Singh, Sushil Gupta and ND Gupta as AAP candidates for Rajya Sabha elections. Vishwas claimed himself to be a "martyr " and sidelined because he has spoken his mind on several issues.
The decision comes in the midst of a rift in the party between Kumar Vishwas supporters and party loyalists. Kumar Vishwas in May this year had made clear of his intentions to be in the Rajya Sabha. Party leader Amanatullah Khan had then called him an RSS agent following which Kumar threatened to quit the party. AAP had suffered losses in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections and in Punjab assembly polls too, that led to a rift and rumours of the party breaking up .A party source has said that Sanjay Singh is definitely considered to be the choice as a nominee for Rajya Sabha while emphasising Singh has been asked to start preparations while decision on the other two seats are yet to be decided and will only be confirmed after PAC meeting. Vishwas continued to express his dissatisfaction with party leadership and said that AAP was deviating from the ideologies and goals it had set 5 years ago and was becoming more centralised, even as its aim was to decentralise power. Vishwas had also said that the party was forgetting the teachings of Anna Hazare and the anti graft movement. The rift in the party got worse recently when Vishwas s supporters took over the party s Delhi office during a protest, AAP termed it a BJP sponsored invasion .
The Rajya Sabha polls will be held on January 16, and the last date for making nominations is January 5. With a majority of 67 MLAs in the 70 member Assembly, AAP should have no problem winning the three seats. While AAP leaders, including Singh, did not comment on the possibility of his nomination, a source said, Discussions are going on, but Singh is definitely a frontrunner. He has been asked by the party to make preparations. A final decision will be taken by the PAC, along with the decision on the two other seats. The developments come against the backdrop of a rift in the party, and AAP leader Kumar Vishwas making his desire for candidature to the Rajya Sabha clear. In May, Delhi MLA Amanatullah Khan had called Vishwas an RSS agent , and Vishwas had threatened to quit. At the time, the AAP was still reeling under losses in the MCD and Punjab assembly polls, and there were fears of the party breaking up .
Rohtak: In what may come as a shock for many, the husband of Gurmeet Ram Rahim's adopted daughter Honeypreet Insan once claimed that the Dera chief was physically involved with his wife. Vishwas Gupta, who married Honeypreet, originally named Priyanka Taneja, in 1999, in the presence of Gurmeet Ram Rahim, accused the Baba of having illicit relationships with his wife.
Jaitley s application also contends that Kejriwal;s intention is to delay the conclusion of recording of evidence by posing irrelevant questions, which are designed to be insulting and annoying. His application sought directions to expedite the recording of evidence in a time bound, fair, dignified and bonafide manner in the ongoing civil defamation case for Rs. 10 crore against Kejriwal.Jaitley s application came in connection with the defamation case against Kejriwal in the Delhi amp; District Cricket Association (DDCA) case. Jaitley had filed a criminal defamation suit against Kejriwal and five other Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders including Ashutosh, Kumar Vishwas, Sanjay Singh, Raghav Chaddha and Deepak Bajpai.
Poets Shabina Adib and Dr Rahat Indori were also on the same television show that was aired on July 1.The complaint has been lodged at Dabri Police Station of West Delhi by a woman who identifies herself as a homemaker, a social worker and a resident of Jeewan Park. In the complaint, the woman has also said she was watching the show with her daughter who asked her if she would also become an "object " after marriage and if women were mere "objects ".
Bhardwaj denied the allegations after Vishwas told the media that he was not asked to attend, despite getting an invitation last year. The MLA said, "There was a problem with the speed post. Kumar Vishwas was invited but the speed post didn't reach him."
After this, Aam Aadmi Party;s Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan had sparked another row by calling him an ;RSS BJP agent; and accused him of ;plotting a coup in AAP;, following which Vishwas had threatened to quit the party if no action was taken against the former. The party;s Political Affairs Committee (PAC) later suspended Khan. Later, Vishwas was also appointed as AAP;s Rajasthan in charge for the state Assembly polls scheduled to take place next year.He is currently busy in strengthening party 's base in Rajasthan and will hold a meeting with party observers for Rajasthan on June 19 and visit the desert state on June 25. However, he has faced some criticism even there. AAP spokesperson Dilip Pandey had questioned Vishwas for attacking the Rajasthan Congress but remaining silent on Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje of BJP. "We will take along the volunteers of the anti graft movement which gave birth to the party, and contest the Rajasthan polls, " a party leader close to Vishwas was quoted saying by PTI. Vishwas has been meeting volunteers as well as people from Rajasthan. He also met the farmer leader Rampal Jat on Friday to get acquainted with the issues related to agriculture.
The posters thank Dilip Pandey, who quit as convenor of the party's Delhi unit in April following AAP's defeat in MCD polls, accuse Vishwas of colluding with the BJP and backstabbing party leaders.Earlier this week, Pandey hit out at the poet politician, asking why he was openly abusing Congress while going soft on Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje.
During the press conference, Sisodia said this is a fight for the rights of people and we will have to fight together. He added that the party will have to strengthen its base and become the voice of people. The announcement came just one day after JD (U) leader Sharad Yadav met Delhi Chief Minister and AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal to discuss the upcoming President election. Although the AAP termed it as a "routine " meeting between the two leaders, the development assumes significance as the opposition parties are working on a consensus candidate, reported PTI.
While the decision, if party sources are to be believed, was taken as water crisis during MCD polls led to the AAP's defeat, the party top brass seems to be sending out a message loud and clear that it will not tolerate any indiscipline. Kapil Mishra is one of the few AAP leaders to have backed Kumar Vishwas, whose differences with Kejriwal and top party leaders, came out in the open after the poet politician posted his 'We The Nation' video, in which he criticised political parties, including his own, for not focussing on people's issues.
