As we see around, present times seem grim for minorities across the world, especially with the rise of fascist forces. This has nevertheless also increased the momentum of the activism and one aspect we are questioning as a part of it is, the majoritarian gaze through media representation. Disclosure, an American documentary released on Netflix this June 20 attempts to point this very cis gender heterosexual gaze on the LGBTQIA community. This gaze undoubtedly has always had an omnipresence space on the screen and eventually has fortified our ways of reacting upon our encounter with transgenders. Disclosure quotes a study according to which 80 percent of the Americans do not personally know a transgender, so the audience including the transgender community largely depends upon the media to perceive and absorb their image. When Laverne Cox, famous for her role of Sophia Burset on the Netflix series Orange Is the New Black, talks about the earliest impression of trans people on her, through TV shows, wherein she recalls that the characters who were not even identified as trans were projected in a manner to reinforce our cliched image of a trans person. This was presented by adopting a humorous mode which eventually made her hate everything trans about herself . Candis Cayne reveals here how the pitch of her voice was lowered two octaves in the introductory scene of Dirty Sexy Money (2007) to make the audience aware of her trans ness.
Frank Lampard s side put in yet another awful performance in the Premier League yesterday getting thrashed by Sheffield United. They were awful at the back, but once again failed to create any real chances or score any goals. This highlights the need to improve both areas on the pitch, and they are now linked with bringing in another attacker.
This four pillar approach, which had been in the works since the June 24 meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation amp; Coordination on India China Border Affairs and the June 30 meeting of Corps Commanders on the two sides, was firmed up at a briefing by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval to Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the Special Representative level talks with Chinese State Councillor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on July 5.Besides the Prime Minister and the NSA, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Home Minister Amit Shah were instrumental in finalising this approach. It was done between the evening of July 5 and the afternoon of July 6.
Speaking to Convey.co.united kingdom, Professor Anand Menon, Director of British isles in a Changing Europe, mentioned politically it is absolutely very important the British isles indication a trade deal.He stated: The challenge with executing all the things so speedily is that the Japanese might just make hundreds of concessions.
The foremost reason for this is the high level of mistrust between the two armies caused by multiple incidents on the border over the past nine weeks. Following the first round of talks at the level of the Corps Commander, the two armies had started the disengagement process from Galwan sector but a dispute over the location of a Chinese observation post led to a violent clash on June 15.The clash, which saw the death of 20 Indian soldiers and an unspecified number of Chinese soldiers, has left scars which are too fresh to be healed. As the two sides start repeating the disengagement process, the Indian side is doubly cautious in its insistence on verifying every single step in detail before moving to the next step.
Joint operationIndian Intelligence agencies believe that Pakistan and China are acting in tandem. Additional Pakistani troops have been moved closer to the LoC in the Pakistan Occupied Kashmir sector as well as near the Punjab and Jammu borders. The Chinese People;s Liberation Army, which was very active from May 1 to May 18, has massed troops at 18 locations near the LAC. In seven locations in Ladakh they had crossed the border, and of these, in five positions they moved 3 to 4 km inwards. The Chinese forward movement was accompanied by the building of huts, bunkers and roads. Since then there has been some pull back of Chinese forces.Bypassing chiefGeneral Bipin Rawat became the first Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) in January this year. But since the post is newly created, the profile and duties of the CDS on a daily basis are still unclear. It is learnt that sometimes Chief of Army Staff General M M Naravane is taken aback when General Rawat talks directly to Army officers on defence matters, going over his head.Waiting in wingsAttorney General K K Venugopal, 89, was keen to step down after his three year tenure ended earlier this year, due to his advanced age. But, he was persuaded to accept a year ''s extension. The government is in talks with senior counsel Harish Salve, currently based in London, to eventually take over the AG ''s post. Salve has impressed Prime Minister Modi after his legal victory on Kulbhushan Jadhav at the International Court of Justice. He charged a token fee of one rupee for the complex case. Salve has requested a grace period of eight months to decide on the offer, as he has some personal work to tie up first.Cup and lip slipThe Congress believed it had sewn up the lone Rajya Sabha seat in Manipur, and would also succeed in toppling BJP Chief Minister N Biren Singh, since it had persuaded a few disgruntled former Congress MLAs who has switched to the BJP to return to its fold. But there is many a slip between the cup and the lip. Thanks to some deft moves by Assam Deputy Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Biren Singh survived, at least temporarily. The Congress was so flat footed that it sent Ajay Maken and Gaurav Gogoi as election observers for the Rajya Sabha poll without first finding out the quarantine rules in Manipur. When the observers landed in the state, they were sent into quarantine since they had failed to book return tickets for the same day. The Congress also did not reckon that blood is thicker than water. Though Congress MLA Imo Singh is from an old Congress family, he is the chief minister ''s son in law and took full advantage of the relationship. Imo Singh jumped ship as did several other turncoats. The BJP may have won this round, but the question is how much longer Sarma will remain content to play second fiddle to CM Sarbananda Sonowal in Assam, considering he is the BJP ''s master strategist for the entire Northeast.Veteran ''s victoryWhen the 77 year old Lingayat leader B S Yediyurappa was appointed Chief Minister of Karnataka it was presumed it was a stop gap arrangement and the real power in the state would lie with BJP General Secretary (Organisation) B L Santhosh, who would eventually succeed him. But BSY ''s masterful handling of the Covid pandemic in Karnataka has silenced his critics. Even though Bengaluru is the third largest city in India, its Covid 19 figures and death rate are lower than all other metropolises such as Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Ahmedabad. The experienced BSY enlisted the cooperation of the Opposition and the minorities, in the all out war against the disease. The CM heeded the advice of medical experts and senior bureaucrats. Santhosh may have had his way in selecting non entities as BJP candidates for the three Rajya Sabha seats, but BSY remains boss of Karnataka. An impressed Amit Shah consulted the Karnataka CM for advice on how to tackle the pandemic in the National Capital Region.
PARIS: The French government on Friday called on Air France to avoid mandatory layoffs as the airline prepared to announce some 7,500 job cuts to cope with a collapse in travel due to the coronavirus pandemic. Managers at the airline, part of Air France KLM Group, are due to meet labor unions in Paris on Friday to detail the redundancy plans affecting some 15 percent of all employees, including pilots, stewards and ground staff. At least half of the cuts will likely entail voluntary departures and retirement plans, sources familiar with the matter said this week, while 1,000 jobs are likely to be cut at Air France s HOP airline. But the prospect of possible compulsory layoffs has raised alarm among workers and the French state, which has granted Air France $7.87 billion in aid to help it survive the pandemic. A successful labor reorganization is one where there are no forced departures, junior economy minister Agnes Pannier Runacher told Sud Radio on Friday. Pannier Runacher said the government s aid package for the airline, which included state backed loans, was justified as the carrier was on the edge, but called on Air France managers to pursue cutbacks responsibly. Aircraft maker Airbus plans to cut some 15,000 jobs across Europe with a third of those in France sparked similar warnings this week, as a wave of restructuring triggered by the virus outbreak begins to hit. Under CEO Ben Smith, who joined from Air Canada in 2018, Air France KLM has sought to cut costs, improve French labor relations and overcome governance squabbles between France and the Netherlands, each owners of close to 14 percent of the group. DUBAI: Egypt s three month suspension of flights due to the coronavirus pandemic weighed on the aviation sector, which lost up to $62.23 million during the period air travel was restricted.

Amidst the ongoing stand off between Indian and Chinese troops along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) at Ladakh region, the People;s Liberation Army (PLA) has deployed more than 20,000 of its troops near the Eastern Ladakh sector, reports ANI.Addition to the Chinese troops, there are reports that suggest the Chinese are also planning to use terrorism to target India and has also attempting to revive a terrorist group in Pakistan occupied Kashmir to unleash terror against India.
He is one of the Indian hard line leaders who are in denial mode about the ground realities of Kashmir and claim it as India s integral part. He is on record to have repeatedly said that if ever talks with Pakistan were held on Kashmir they would be in regard to the area of Kashmir under Pakistan s control. His statement, rightly and strongly rejected by Pakistan, is nothing but the dream of a lunatic who believes in the illusions he is obsessed with. First of all he needs to be reminded that the very basis on which India started claiming Kashmir as its integral part was challenged and rejected by the UN back in the 1950s through its resolutions 91 and 122, unequivocally reiterating that the question of accession of Kashmir could not be settled by any means other than a plebiscite held under the auspices of the UN. India has also accepted Kashmir as a disputed territory in the Simla Agreement and Lahore Declaration as well.
