Ahead of Gandhi Jayanti, PM Narendra Modi launched the Swachhata Hi Seva Abhiyan to commemorate the Father of the Nation's 150th birthday.Earlier in the day, PM Modi and President Ram Nath Kovind had visited Delhi s Rajghat to pay their respects to Mahatma Gandhi.
Launching the "Swachhata Hi Seva" campaign, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said today that all sections of society and every part of the country have joined the cleanliness drive as he noted few would have thought that nine crore toilets would be built and 4.5 lakh villages declared open defecation free in four years.
To commemorate the 150th birth anniversary Mahatma Gandhi, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) started the Swachhata Pakhwada here on Saturday in a big way giving focus on cleanliness at railway station premises, trains, offices, workshops, maintenance depots, hospitals and residential areas.The Pakhwada will continue till the Gandhi Jayanti on October 2, 2018.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the 'Swachhata Hi Seva' movement today urging people across the country to actively participate in it and help create a 'Swachh Bharat'.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi Wednesday announced the launch of the 'Swachhata Hi Seva Movement' from September 15 to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
During the interaction, PM Modi took questions from MLAs of different states on various issues including better implementation of central schemes related to employment generation, skill development, LPG gas connections, Ayush Bharat, Swachhata Abhiyan and others.

The deadline coincides with the ongoing 'Swachhata hi Seva' campaign to mark three years of the Swachh Bharat mission.Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is aimed at keeping streets and infrastructure of the country towns and rural areas clean, eliminating open defecation by constructing individual, cluster and community toilets.
