Now, just weeks after the initial wave of bans hit the Play Store, 25 more apps have been identified as a potential threat and this new set of malicious apps may even have the potential to hack your Facebook account.

There is no rule that tells us how complex a password we are using. Common sense tells us that the more characters it has, and the more varied it is, the better, to avoid that nobody can break it through computer software: it must have numbers, lowercase letters, capital letters and, finally, some other character of those special calls.Everyone who is dedicated to security also stresses the importance of having several of these passwords and, if possible, with a complexity according to the significance of what we want to protect. That is, that on websites and services where we have registered payment methods, create the most armoured passwords possible and those where it is not possible to misuse our money, or get economic revenue, relax them with other simpler ones.

Amidst the deluge of reveals at Apple s WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference), the wholesale revamp of the iOS home screen could prove one of the biggest deals for consumers. For the past 13 iOS iterations, Apple kept the home screen as a locked down grid of app icons and folders. Now, users can place widgets (such as weather, or maps) on their screens. That degree of customization would have been unthinkable under the design tenure of Jony Ive, who liked to keep Apple hardware and software nice and minimalist. It s also going to change how developers approach the platform, because now, in addition to thinking about their core apps, they ll also need to consider how a widget may operate on the home screen.
Global Computer Aided Laser Tracker Measure System Market documents a detailed study of different aspects of the Global Market. It shows the steady growth in market in spite of the fluctuations and changing market trends. The report is based on certain important parameters.Laser trackers are instruments that accurately measure large objects by determining the positions of optical targets held against those objects. The accuracy of laser trackers is of the order of 0.025 mm over a distance of several metres. Some examples of laser tracker applications are to align aircraft wings during assembly and to align large machine tools. To take measurements the technician first sets up a laser tracker on a tripod with an unobstructed view of the object to be measured. The technician removes a target from the base of the laser tracker and carries it to the object to be measured, moving smoothly to allow the laser tracker to follow the movement of the target. The technician places the target against the object and triggers measurements to be taken at selected points, sometimes by a remote control device. Measurements can be imported into different types of software to plot the points or to calculate deviation from the correct position.
The new report, entitled The Dark Reality of Open Source , laid out the risks increasingly plaguing open source software (OSS). It found that the total number of common vulnerabilities and exposures vulnerabilities (CVEs) shot up to 968 in 2019 a considerable leap from the 421 CVEs that were recorded in 2018 and marking a rise of 130% in the span of only a single year.In addition, the average time it takes for security vulnerabilities in open source projects to be updated on the National Vulnerability Database (NVD) after their public disclosure is as much as 54 days, according to the researchers, leaving security vulnerabilities exposed for an inordinate amount of time.
Apple s move to its own ARM based, custom designed chips for its Mac computers was long anticipated. The simple reason behind the shift is Cupertino s obsession with end to end control over its hardware and software #8212; it has achieved the same with almost all its other products, including iPhones and iPads.Apple says its custom designed chips for Macs will deliver better performance, but consume less power. The tech giant further said that its Apple Silicon will also make it easier for developers to write apps for the entire ecosystem. By using its own chipsets, Apple can also improve security of its Mac computers, making them more difficult for hackers to break in. Also, full control will mean Apple can push the envelope on what a Mac can achieve #8212; maybe 24 hour battery life and built in 5G connectivity.

At its virtual Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday, Apple AAPL, 1.30% quietly snuck a small tile into a screengrab documenting the coming iPadOS 14, offering users an option to select their default internet browser and email application, a big change from the past. Apple has long resisted allowing users to make third party applications their default software for those two services on Apple devices, keeping Safari and the company s own email app in those positions. Both an iOS 14 preview of new features and a preview of the iPadOS 14 on the company s website, posted after the event ended, confirmed the move: Set a default web browser and email app that launch when you click a link or want to compose a new mail message, both said. An Apple spokeswoman pointed to that list of new features when asked by MarketWatch about the change.
Even as Apple executives came on screen for cinematic cameos, improving one feature after the other on all the software, the biggest announcement was held for the last #8212; the Appe silicon that will power future Mac devices. This is big, given that Mac devices will no longer rely on Intel processors. But this was coming, as Apple makes chips for almost all its products from the iPhone and iPad to the Apple Watch.Apple claims its processors will give more performance at lower power, the problem all chipmakers have been trying to solve for long. So, there will be a family of SoCs for the Macs, which will fuse better with Apple ''s own software that will take these devices to a different level of synergy. While you will see some Macs now come with Apple ''s own chipsets, there will be some Intel Macs too, Cook said. There is also the small little detail that all iOS apps will not potentially run on Macs too.
Xiaomi has released the Android 11 Beta 1 build for Redmi K30 Pro users in China. The development comes days after another Xiaomi sub brand, Poco announced the Android 11 beta 1 build for Poco F2 Pro. The beta version of the Android 11 for the two Xiaomi sub brand phones are available in a common build as they are essentially the same smartphones with different branding. Notably, the current beta 1 version of Android 11 does not have Xiaomi''s custom MIUI skin on top. The software is based on Android Open Source Project (AOSP) that is Android in its true vanilla form.Xiaomi on Monday announced via Weibo that the Android 11 Beta 1 is now available for Redmi K30 Pro. The Chinese tech giant cautions that the Android 11 Beta is primarily for developers to adapt their apps for the upcoming version of Android and not for the end consumer. Users are also advised to back up their data before switching to the beta version of Android 11. To install the Android 10 Beta 1 for Redmi K30 Pro, interested developers need to download the .tgz extension file, available on the Mi Community site. User can select the download link for Poco F2 Pro as they are the same phones under different branding and have the same build version.
As businesses migrate to online platforms to meet consumer demand during these times, having a secure network to protect organisation and customer data should be a part of the technology backbone. However, this new focus on going digital also attracts bad actors. With most of the workforce now working remotely and with the increased use of digital services by new customers and businesses, online fraud attacks have increased by 20 per cent during the ongoing pandemic. While this exposes vulnerability arising from the lack of a robust IT infrastructure, businesses must strive to strike the right balance between digitizing their businesses and managing fraud risk efficiently. As fraudsters attempt to exploit this window of opportunity, MSMEs need to reassess their risk strategy to combat cyber threats. Here are some of the important steps that can boost the risk health of a business and help MSMEs safeguard themselves against frauds while building a comprehensive fraud strategy:Invest in secure IT infrastructure: The global crisis has changed the way businesses function and has also led to a rising threat of cyber frauds and data breaches. With more customers moving to digital platforms and businesses increasingly using customer information and data, investing in robust IT infrastructure has become critical. Earlier, one of the biggest impediments for MSMEs to deploy complex IT infrastructure was the cost associated with it. However, in the digitally connected world and with SaaS (Software as a Service), MSMEs will find it easier to implement necessary and critical IT security policies to combat growing cyber frauds.Beware of phishing attacks: Fortinet s recent survey points out the increase in phishing attempts post the Covid 19 outbreak and websites claiming helpful information on the coronavirus have emerged as dominant threats. Phishing attacks can take many forms, with the most common being through emails. MSMEs can manage these threats by ensuring proper firewalls, allowing remote access only from known IP addresses, using the latest version of remote management applications and examining logs regularly for signs of unknown suspicious activity. Additional measures like maintaining compliance with all security controls and educating employees about potential threats and raising alerts can be effective in mitigating organizational risks.Enable contactless deliveries: Most businesses now offer contactless or low touch deliveries to protect their delivery partners and customers. While this is in line with the need to maintain social distancing and provide additional safety, it is also essential for quicker service when coupled with contactless forms of payment. However, this may lead to an increase in goods not received disputes for businesses. Hence, to reduce the possibility of disputes and chargebacks, MSMEs ensure that delivery partners take a photo as proof of delivery and thereby help defend against claims of goods not received. Order online, pickup in store: With strict directives on social distancing still necessary, MSMEs that have both online and offline operations should leverage this with an Order online, pick up in store delivery model. This model helps consumers avoid shipping fees and enables customers to pick up purchases in store as per their own schedules. However, the lack of information on the customer shipping address and a few parameters of payment data not being captured could be a collateral risk.Check shipping details: As contactless deliveries gain popularity, fraudsters have started manipulating the shipping address on the checkout pages to unoccupied houses or new buildings, allowing them to pick up packages that have been left outside. While it is not possible to check every shopper s address for validity, merchants should carefully check details in the shipping addresses that might be used to reroute packages. With Covid 19 likely to have a huge impact on MSMEs in the next few months, businesses need to realign to evolving customer needs and implement secured, risk free solutions that protect customers and partners. Secure IT and payments infrastructure will be the backbone for small businesses to operate better and eventually gain consumer trust in their platforms.Vipin Surelia is the Chief Risk Officer, India amp; South Asia at Visa. Apple said Monday it would build its own chips to power its Mac computers to create a "common architecture" that allows the devices to run the same apps as those on the iPhone and iPad.The news came at the annual Apple developer conference a virtual event due to the coronavirus pandemic where the tech giant announced a series of product updates including details of its upcoming iOS 14 software powering its popular handsets.
Threat actors continued to exploit vulnerabilities in outdated software and operating systems in this quarter. Windows XP and Windows 7 were the most at risk as Microsoft has stopped providing updates and patches to these versions.
