Over a period spanning almost five years, they allegedly managed to dupe SMRT into awarding 28 contracts valued at almost $10 million to these two firms. On Friday (Dec 29), three current and former employees of SMRT Trains were hauled to court over cheating charges.
The police were alerted at 8.45am to the unattended bag at the bicycle bay beside Admiralty MRT Station. With help from SMRT staff, the police managed to quickly track down the owner of the luggage bag at the train station. He was arrested on the spot, the police said in a statement.
Rail operator SMRT said that the incident happened around 2.50pm, and staff members switched on the tunnel ventilation system immediately to disperse the odourless gas . Ms Margaret Teo, head of corporate marketing and communications at SMRT, said that the gas leaked into the tunnel and reduced visibility at parts of the station when the platform doors were opened for passengers to leave the train. No injuries or fire were reported. The affected train was towed to Ulu Pandan Depot for inspection, and the train operator, police and the Singapore Civil Defence Force are investigating the matter.
