Amid speculations of cricketer turned politician Navjot Singh Sidhu leaving the Congress party and joining the Arvind Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Friday said that Sidhu is very much a part of the Congress party and that he is not joining AAP.The Chief Minister said that he had confirmed this with election strategist Prashant Kishor. Amarinder Singh told NDTV, "Navjot Sidhu is very much a part of our party. As far as Prashant Kishor approaching Sidhu to join AAP is concerned, it is not true and it has been confirmed to me by Prashant himself."
Sidhu had resigned from Amarinder s Cabinet in July last year after he was divested of his portfolio citing non performance. He has since then been away from mainstream politics. He had shifted base to Amritsar soon after his resignation from the state s capital Chandigarh, after vacating his official bungalow.Sources in the Congress said that while PPCC president Sunil Kumar Jakhar has even offered to step down as state party president for Sidhu to be handed over the reins of the unit, the party is working to find a way to get him back in action.
Singh had a spat with Cabinet ministers last month and had to tender an apology to buy peace with them. Grapevine has it that 1987 batch IAS officer Vini Mahajan is the front runner for the coveted post, superseding the senior most bureaucrat in the state government 1984 batch officer, K.B.S. Sidhu.

Punjab Minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot today asked Navjot Singh Sidhu to resign from the state cabinet if he cannot work with Amarinder Singh, a day after the chief minister accused the cricketer turned politician of "damaging" the Congress just before polls.
Sidhu must realize that he is no longer in BJP, but in the Congress party and where there are multiple forums where he can raise all the issues he wants to, without damaging and sabotaging the party, as long as his intentions are sincere, he added.
