The study said that people who spend more time sitting can be at a higher risk of death from cancer. The researchers found that participants with the greatest total sedentary time had a 52 per cent increased risk of dying from cancer compared with those who had the least sedentary time. However, there was notable uncertainty as to the exact size of the effect, with the best estimate ranging from 1 per cent to a 127 per cent increased risk. "In the study, greater sedentary time, as measured with accelerometry, appeared to be independently associated with cancer mortality risk. Replacing sedentary time with either LIPA or MVPA may be associated with a lower risk of cancer mortality. These findings suggest that the total volume of sedentary behaviour is a potential cancer mortality risk factor and support the public health message that adults should sit less and move more to promote longevity, " read the study.

Until recently, it was believed that the ancestors of most animals on Earth today burst onto the scene during a brief period called the ;Cambrian Explosion,; 570 to 530 million years ago. Fossils of the animals on the scene prior to that, in a period called the Ediacaran, seemed strange, mainly sedentary or passive like a jellyfish, and unrelated to anything recognizable today. But a fossilized "worm" and its final track, as well as several other newly described fossils, are starting to show that the Cambrian Explosion probably wasn't a big bang, but a slow evolution.According to a press release, the millipede like fossil is about 550 million years old and was found in rock formations near the city of Yiling in east central China. Paleontologists found 35 fossils of the new species, named Yilingia spiciformis, including 13 associated tracks and the final "death march " of the worm fossilized in its tracks.
If you experiencing increased thirst and frequent urination accompanied by fatigue, most probably, you have type 2 diabetes. It is a chronic condition that occurs when your body becomes insensitive to insulin. This increases level of glucose in the blood. Due to unhealthy and a sedentary lifestyle, type 2 diabetes has become a common problem these days. Some of the common factors contributing this health problem include obesity, family history, gestational diabetes, polycystic syndrome, etc. You will experience symptoms like increased hunger, blurred vision, slow healing sores, frequent infection, and dark skin colour in the armpit and neck.If you are suffering from type 2 diabetes, what you eat makes a big difference. Muscles power is maximum when we are in our 20s to 30s.As we age, we experience ageing symptoms accompanied by muscle loss. In a new study, researchers at the Max Delbrueck Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC) have identified a protein that has a major influence on healthy ageing by supporting muscle strength and lifespan. They found that animals lacking the protein LIN 53 have severe muscle defects and limited mobility. LIN 53 deficiency can cause premature death.

It s plainly obvious that excessive sedentary behavior is bad for us. But there are still questions about the specifics of this harm. That includes not only figuring out whether some types of sedentary behavior are worse, but whether different populations might be affected differently by too much sitting. Most human studies on sedentary behavior and really, most studies in general have only looked at white people of European descent. This disparity is even more egregious given that African Americans are more likely to develop and die from heart disease.
According to a 2017 study published in the Maternal and Child Health Journal, following a sedentary lifestyle can significantly up your risk of developing preeclampsia during pregnancy. Preeclampsia is a condition that can cause a surge in your blood pressure levels along with high levels of protein in urine. As per the estimates of a 2018 report by theInternational Journal of Women s Health, the worldwide incidence of preeclampsia was 2.16 per cent that year and the numbers are increasing every year. One of the main reasons behind the increase is the lack of awareness about preeclampsia. In order to spread the word about this pregnancy complication and other hypertensive pregnancy disorders, World Preeclampsia Day is celebrated worldwide every year on 22nd May. Observance of this day is part of a Population Council project named Ending Eclampsia which is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Population Council is an international non profit organisation that works in the field of biomedicine, social science, and public health research. World Preeclampsia Day was first celebrated in 2017.As mentioned already, it is a condition where a pregnant female experiences high blood pressure, increased levels of protein in the urine and irregular growth of placenta, an organ attached to the walls of your uterus to provide oxygen and nutrients to your baby in the womb. This condition generally develops around the last trimester or post 20 weeks of your conception. Preeclampsia is pregnancy induced hypertension that results in the clamping down of small blood vessels and constriction of the bigger ones. It can damage organs like kidney, brain and liver. If you don 't address it on time, you may end up facing a more severe form of preeclampsia. It is known as eclampsia, which manifests itself with an additional symptom: Seizure. If these conditions are not properly managed, they may result in low birth weight of your newborn and even premature delivery.
According to the estimates of a 2018 study published in the International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases, 1 in 100 people are affected by rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in India. RA is an autoimmune arthritis that can cause inflammation in your joints leading to stiffness, severe pain and immobility as well. This condition is more common in women compared to men, especially in the age group of 30 to 60 years. People tend to report this condition only after they witness severe health complications which is why it becomes difficult to treat this autoimmune disease. In order to spread awareness about these conditions, the International Foundation for Autoimmune and Autoinflammatory Arthritis initiated the World Autoimmune Arthritis Day on 20th May way back in 2012. This day also aims to help you understand the difference between general arthritis (mostly triggered by age or sedentary lifestyle, bad posture, weak bones, etc.) and an autoimmune arthritis. Autoimmune arthritis is a type of arthritis that affects your immune system. In this condition your defence mechanism attacks your own body. The most common manifestation of an autoimmune arthritis is found in swollen joints. But they can also affect other parts of the body, says Dr Nikhil Gupta, Rheumatologist, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Delhi. "Apart from RA, there are various other types of autoimmune arthritis like psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, gout, lupus, " adds Dr. Gupta. However, as already mentioned, rheumatoid arthritis is the most common autoimmune arthritis that affects millions across the globe.
The U.N. health agency issued guidelines this week that call for drastically curtailing the amount of time the youngest spend in front of a screen. That goes for televisions, tablets, smartphones, video games, and other devices. The recommendations call for no screen time for children in the first two years of life. For youngsters ages 2 to 4, the WHO said, daily sedentary screen time should be limited to one hour, and preferably be less.
The World Health Organisation issued new guidelines for how much screen time babies and young children should get, and it recommends very little of it. The guidelines, released on Wednesday, focus on the importance of physical movement, quality sleep, and limiting the amount of time spent in front of a TV or computer. This is the first time the WHO has released screen time guidelines for children, according to Time. "Improving physical activity, reducing sedentary time and ensuring quality sleep in young children will improve their physical, mental health and wellbeing, and help prevent childhood obesity and associated diseases later in life," a representative for the World Health Organisation said in a statement.
The guidance mainly recommends more play time and less sedentary time for kids and toddlers and says that babies under the age of one should not be allowed any screen time at all. Children between ages 2 and 4 should have an hour or less of sedentary screen time per day. In the announcement by the United Nations health agency this week, it says that removing screen time and reducing them to the recommended limits and increasing physically active hours in children would result in a population of healthy adults.Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the director general of the WHO, said in a statement, ”Achieving health for all means doing what is best for health right from the beginning of people 's lives. Early childhood is a period of rapid development and a time when family lifestyle patterns can be adapted to boost health gains. ”
The new recommendations cover physical activity, sedentary behaviour and sleep for children under the age of five. What are the new recommendations?
