The vision that Margaret Thatcher articulated in 1988 has set the model for how we live now and for which many of us have voted many times. It is the Empire of the Market. At its core is the free choice of an individual over regulation by an overbearing state. This means less government, lower taxes, deregulation and businesses freed from the dead hand of bureaucracy or any wider obligations to society. Thatcher argued that a free market is the only system that works, that it is the best way to build wealth, distribute services and grow the economy. Her vision was so alluring that by 1988 she was already in her third term as Prime Minister and was a role model for many other world leaders. Thatcher described her support of free markets as moral in that moral behaviour requires free choice by the individual to make the right decision. An enthusiastic and supportive media labelled those unwilling or unable to exert their free choice as scroungers, workshy and lazy, their children as delinquent, their lifestyles as feckless. In the following decades, personal taxes were slashed, essential services, such as water, power and telecommunications, privatised and education, especially higher education, increasingly commoditised. The purpose of universities was to train graduates for employment, the value of research was to serve the commercial needs of industry, the costs of science, technology and innovation were to be recouped immediately. Interestingly, the only areas where the state, i.e. tax payer, covered long term costs was in military expenditure and bailouts to failing businesses that were deemed too big to fail . No wonder our role models are now tycoons, captains of industry and successful speculators not teachers, doctors or scientists. Margaret Thatcher believed that there is no alternative to the Empire of the Market. Until now, her vision has prevailed. Now locked down at home, worried about our future and pondering the wisdom of signing up to a gig economy without social safety nets, it might be wise to reflect on whether there really is no alternative to the Empire of the Market. We have already had warnings of its limitations. When the crisis of 2008 revealed the risks of an unfettered financial services sector, we left it to self regulate. When extractive industries continued to damage our environment and health, we carried on consuming. When climate change disturbed planetary ecosystems, we said that bold actions were too expensive. In each case, we let a free market decide what was best for us as individuals, not for us as part of society or indeed as guests of the planet. Now a virus a few nanometres in length has said think again. As long as the State wasn t forcing us to stay indoors, we retained the free choice to infect others, including our families, friends and neighbours. Italy, Spain and, now, the UK will soon learn the cost of individual free choice to make the wrong decision.

As per the space agency, Cartosat 3 is a third generation agile, advanced satellite having high resolution imaging capability that will also help in monitoring India''s borders from space. It will be placed in an orbit of 509 km at an inclination of 97.5 degrees. The satellite will provide high quality pictures that cater to the demand of rural resource, urban planning, coastal land use, infrastructure development, land cover, among others. At about a minute later, the first of the 13 US nanosatellites will be put into orbit.
It has been an interesting few weeks on the International Space Station (ISS). Earlier this month, an automated Cygnus cargo ship arrived at the ISS with supplies. The items included cookie dough and a zero gravity oven that would form the base for a first of its kind baking experiment in space. The cookie project" is the result of a partnership between hospitality group Hilton, the Zero G Kitchen, which creates appliances for microgravity use in space flights, and NanoRacks, a company that develops products for commercial use in space.No date has been announced for the experiment, but the objective is to make long duration space travel more hospitable" in the future.

He added, When I graduated, more than 3 decades back, the job scenario was not as vibrant as today. Area of specialization limited the career options. Today, the options are many. There is an added volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity about the global economy. However, you all are much smarter and aware about these scenarios than the older generations. Nevertheless, remember, you are unlikely to fall into your dream career or create a successful business simply by wishing for it. Here you have to be pragmatic in your approach and learn from the experience of the older generation. Keep in mind that, there is only one life and there are many career options. You all need to identify your passion amp; natural talent and align your career. Choose an industry that reflects your passion and interests. Rather than choosing a job for money, choose it for your happiness. Be good at what you do. Remember, passion is not the only ingredient needed for success. You also need skills and strengths. Prof Rao added, The research output of the Institute has shown significant enhancement due to different initiatives fostering interdisciplinary collaborations within the Institute as well as with other institutions. The new vaccine is claimed to prevent the development of the tumor in immunized mice, as well as to prolong survival very significantly in mice with primary and metastatic melanomas. Conventional immunotherapy, especially immune checkpoint therapy, has been limited in its clinical efficacy. The reasons include a poor response in the majority of treated individuals, the emergence of resistance, and unacceptably severe side effects.In a counterattack, scientists in the Satchi Fainaro laboratory at Tel Aviv University worked on a combination of therapies, namely, a novel nanovaccine with anti PD 1 antibody ( PD 1). The latter works by suppressing the tumor factors which inhibited normal immune responses that would be expected to identify and attack the tumor cells as foreign, preventing tumor development and spread. They also added an anti OX40 antibody which stimulates a class of immune cells called effector T cells. These cells respond to this molecule by proliferating and becoming more potent, surviving the effects of immune related functions for a longer period of time.
The study published on Friday in the journal Science Immunology described the new cancer immunotherapy that can prevent the immune system from becoming tolerant of tumors, which occurs in 30 per cent of all cancer patients, the Xinhua news agency reported.A team led by Wang Dangge from Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica under the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Fudan University developed a common immune checkpoint inhibitor in a nanoparticle formulation, which is highly tumor specific.
HMD Global had launched its latest budget-centric smartphone, the Nokia 3.2, in India in two variants - 3GB RAM with 32GB internal storage priced at Rs 10,790 and the 2GB RAM with 16GB storage variant priced at Rs 8,990. After a recent price cut, the prices have been slashed to Rs 8,150 and Rs 9,410, respectively. The Nokia 3.2 is a sub-Rs 10,000 smartphone and it offers some attractive features like a waterdrop display, long-lasting battery dedicated Google Assistant button and three years of monthly security patches among others. But is it a capable device that's worth your money? We used the smartphone for some time and here's our review of it. Design and Display Nokia 3.2 has a plastic unibody and it comes in Black and Steel colours. We received the Black colour variant for review. The back gives an attractive look with a glossy finish, which attracts a lot of fingerprints and smudges. Nokia does not ship a protective case in the retail package, so you'll have to buy one separately. Other than that, you have the Nokia and Android One branding as usual. At the back, the phone features a single camera setup and LED flash at the top-centre position. Just beneath the camera, there a fingerprint sensor, which is easily accessible with your finger. Do keep in mind that the 2GB RAM variant of the Nokia 3.2 lacks a fingerprint sensor. The fingerprint scanner on the 3GB variant which we received is pretty fast and accurate. However, the same can not be said for the face unlock. It takes a while to unlock the phone when you use the face unlock feature. We advise you to go with the fingerprint scanner as it was a lot quicker than the face unlock. The right side of the device features volume controls and power on/off button. The power button has an LED notification light which glows while charging as well. The left side of the phone features a SIM slot that comes loaded with a triple card slot that can house two Nano SIM cards and a microSD card. There is also a Google Assistant button on the left that will let you quickly access it with a simple tap. The button is convenient and is pretty quick at launching Assistant. The top of the device features a headphone jack and on the bottom, there is a micro USB port which is next to a single speaker grille. The Nokia 3.2 flaunts a display with a waterdrop notch. The bezels on both the right and left sides are comparatively thin, but there is thick chin bezels at the bottom. It has a 6.26-inch HD+ display with a screen resolution 1520 x 720 pixels along with a 19:9 aspect ratio and 269 ppi pixel density. The screen is quite big and it is difficult to reach the corner of the screen with a single hand. The display looks good and the viewing angles are decent enough. The Nokia 3.2 display offers good colour reproduction and viewing angles. We found the brightness levels quite good in indoor conditions, but we found it quite difficult to read the display in sunlight. There is also Night Light mode which can be enabled for a comfortable screen viewing experience at night. It does not come with the Widevine L1 certification, which means despite being an HD+ screen, the display will not be able to stream content on Netflix and Amazon in HD. Hardware and Software Nokia 3.2 is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 429 chipset coupled with Adreno 504 GPU. This device is certainly not a powerful one with this processor and you shouldnâ€™t expect it to perform well. We were able to play casual games like Subway Surfers and Candy Crush on our device but the phone really struggles with high-end games like Asphalt 9 or PUBG Mobile. On the software front, the Nokia 3.2 runs stock Android 9.0 Pie which means no unnecessary bloatware and pre-loaded apps. T The phone has various gestures such as a swipe fingerprint for notifications, turn over the phone to reject a call and a camera shortcut on the screen. Camera Nokia 3.2 does not feature any dual camera setup which has become a standard norm even in the budget segment these days. Rather it just features a single 13-megapixel rear sensor with f/2.2 aperture and 1.12 micron pixels and on the front, it has a 5-megapixel sensor f/2.2 front-facing camera and 77-degree field of view for selfies and video calling. The phone uses the front camera for the face unlock feature too. The camera UI offers just three basic modes - photo, video, and square. The phone lacks modes like bokeh, AR stickers, portrait light effects and more which other phones offer at this price point. Overall in the camera department, we can say that Nokia 3.2 has a decent pair of cameras but it can not be certainly called the USP of the phone. Battery and Connectivity One of the key highlights of the Nokia 3.2 is its big 4000mAh battery which easily lasts a day and a half with medium-to-heavy usage on a single charge. Our usage included checking e-mails, checking social media, some calls, music streaming, and casual gaming.
