Cracking the mystery of dark matter is one of the most frustrating quests of physics. One lingering suggestion of how to explain some of the challenges of dark matter is that the strange substance arose before the Big Bang. That moment represents the most popular explanation for how the universe began, in a snapshot singularity that expanded over billions of years into everything that surrounds us. And if dark matter did come first, that changes how scientists should hunt for the substance.

Murphy's Law which states that anything that can go wrong will go wrong is now the official economic doctrine of our times. Indeed, just about everything that could go wrong from Washington to Tokyo is going awry, and at the worst possible moment for the global financial system.Last week gave renewed life to this adage. First, Donald Trump upped the ante on his 18 month trade war with China: atop his 25% taxes on $250 billion of Chinese goods, the U.S. President plans an additional 10% on $300 billion worth.

The first question to hit in Chris Wright s Reddit AMA regarded the effect on Red Hat s OpenShift strategy. The short answer, was no effect . First, Red Hat is still Red Hat, and we are focused on delivering the industry s most comprehensive enterprise Kubernetes platform, Wright answered Second, upstream first development in Kubernetes and community ecosystem development in OKD are part of our product development process. Neither of those change. The IBM acquisition can help accelerate the adoption of OpenShift given the increase scale and reach in sales and services that IBM has.

And Ritu Karidhal is the mission director who will coordinate Chandrayaan 2 when the satellite is injected into orbit. ”Women have led various satellite launches in the past, but this is the first time both the mission director and project director of such a huge project are women. Vanitha was appointed last year. It is good to see more and more women taking up leadership roles and this will continue in future missions of ISRO as well, ” said Dr M Annadurai, former director of the ISRO satellite centre in Bengaluru.

The blast flung debris widely along a busy road in Plantation, west of Fort Lauderdale. The restaurant was destroyed, and nearby businesses and cars were damaged. Though firefighters found ruptured gas lines afterward, authorities said it was too early to determine a cause."We thought it was thunder at first, and then we felt the building shake and things started falling. I looked outside and it was almost like the world was ending," said Alex Carver, a worker at a deli across the street from the explosion. "It was nuts, man. It was crazy."
First, the club set the table by announcing the signing of winger Jack Clarke from Leeds United (where he will spend next year on loan). It s probably a decent enough move, but it s not one that moves the needle the way their other new transfer will. The big news came when Tottenham announced the signing of Tanguy Ndombele from Olympique Lyon for a club record 62 million.
Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed not only their first, but also their second major signing since January 2018 this week.Supporters breathed a sigh of relief folliowing the announcement of Jack Clarke (who immediately went back on loan to Leeds United), and the club record signing of Tanguy Ndombele on Tuesday.
The marriage penalty isn t a specific provision in the Tax Code. Instead, it is the combined result of several provisions that effectively causes some joint filers to pay more tax than they would owe if they were filing separately as single taxpayers.First, here s some background information. Under the graduated federal tax rate system for individuals, income is taxed at a higher level once you exceed the threshold for the next tax bracket. The top tax rate you must pay is referred to as your marginal tax rate and each additional dollar is taxed at that higher rate until you reach the next threshold or you top out at the 37% rate.
The Narendra Modi government s decision to set up a Defence Space Agency (DSA) with command over the space assets of the Army, Navy and Air Force is the most significant development in India s defence establishment since the operationalization of the nuclear arsenal around 15 years ago. It is not Star Wars yet, but space has undoubtedly become a military theatre. The US, Russia, China and, since March, India, have shown that they have the capability to physically destroy satellites in orbit. Like it or not, the post Cold War space arms race is underway. What should be India s objectives in this new game? Before we answer that question, it is important to recall the exceptional route India took to get here. The US, Russia, China and Europe developed space capabilities for military purposes first, and then put those technologies to civilian use. Barring Europe s Ariane rockets, their extant satellite launch vehicles are derived from their respective intercontinental ballistic missile designs. India s space quest, on the other hand, was focused on civilian use weather forecasting, broadcast, telecommunications and remote sensing. It was only in the mid 1980s that technology from the Indian Space Research Organisation s (Isro) Satellite Launch Vehicle 3 was employed in the Agni ballistic missile. When it comes to satellites, India has a handful of military satellites in operation, compared to over 40 civilian ones. Our first dedicated military satellite was launched only in 2013.
Today is June 23, 2019, making it the 30th anniversary of Tim Burton s amp; Batman. It s no secret that the 1989 blockbuster was my favorite movie growing up and remains among my favorites to this day. Whether the Nolan movies (especially the first two) or Burton s own amp; Batman Returns amp; remains the superior live action amp; Batman amp; movie, the Michael Keaton Jack Nicholson gothic action fantasy still holds up as a one of a kind blockbuster spectacular. But it s also the movie that, as I ve noted here and there over the years, is responsible for many of the trends that led the theatrical industry to its current impasse. Looking back at its success, I maintain that amp; Batman, not amp; Star Wars amp; (and certainly not amp; Jaws), is the movie most responsible for the current Hollywood blockbuster.First, for those who came in late, amp; Batman amp; isn t the first big budget comic book superhero movie, as Richard Donner s amp; Superman amp; beat it to the punch by about 10.5 years. And it didn t kick off a wave of successful comic book superhero movies, as many most of the would be copycats were period piece pulp fiction adaptations of the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s comic strips and radio shows. Since amp; Batman amp; played, especially in its first third, as a 1940s pulp crime noir, it made some sense that Hollywood would react by giving us amp; Dick Tracy, amp; The Shadow, amp; The Rocketeer amp; and amp; The Phantom. amp; Even amp; The Mask, while technically set in the present and sold as a Jim Carrey vehicle more than a comic book adaptation, was fashioned as an old school gangster saga.

(Paule Joseph, Shavonne Pocock NIH via AP)ORLANDO, Fla. A recent study conducted at the University of Central Florida could be key to identifying a contributing factor to the development of autism in children. Dr. Saleh Naser, Dr. Latifa Abdelli and UCF undergraduate research assistant Aseela Samsam studied how high levels of acid commonly found in processed foods affects neuro stem cells and found that it can reduce the development of neurons in fetal brains. More News Headlines Online school gives students with autism new ways to learn Study: Epilepsy drugs linked to higher risk of birth defects Mother says medical marijuana works wonders for her autistic son When propionic acid, which is used to extend the shelf life of processed foods and to prevent mold from forming in processed cheese and bread, appears in high levels in a woman #39;s gut, it can then be transferred to the fetus. "In the lab, the scientists found exposing neural stem cells to excessive PPA damages brain cells in several ways. First, the acid disrupts the natural balance between brain cells by reducing the number of neurons and over producing glial cells. While glial cells help develop and protect neuron function, too many glia cells disturb connectivity between neurons. They also cause inflammation, which has been noted in the brains of autistic children, " UCF officials said in a news release. Shortened and damaged neuron pathways is also a noted side effect of excessive levels of PPA. That leads to repetitive behavior, mobility limitations and an inhibited ability to interact with others all common traits of children who have autism. The study began because Naser, who specializes in gastroenterology research at the College of Medicine 's Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences, noticed that many children with autism also suffer from gastric issues, so she wanted to compare the gut bacteria of people who have autism with those who do not. ”Studies have shown a higher level of PPA in stool samples from children with autism and the gut microbiome in autistic children is different, ” Naser said in a news release. ”I wanted to know what the underlying cause was. ” The 18 month, first of its kind study is just the beginning of the research. The team plans to study whether mice born to mothers with a high PPA diet experience autism traits. ”This research is only the first step towards better understanding of autism spectrum disorder, ” the UCF researchers said. ”But we have confidence we are on the right track to finally uncovering autism etiology. ” To read the study in its entirety, click here.
