Woodstock 50, LLC has filed for a court order against the investors who recently pulled their financial support of the festival, TMZ reports and Pitchfork can confirm. In the verified petition, filed yesterday (May 8) in a New York court, a lawyer for Woodstock 50 argues that Dentsu violated an agreement with Woodstock 50 and is asking for an order that would see Dentsu cease all communications relating to the Festival, return $17.8 million to Woodstock s bank account, award financial relief to Woodstock, and more. W50 Woodstock 50, LLC was blindsided by Dentsu s announcement, and shocked and outraged that Dentsu claimed the right to unilaterally cancel the Festival an action that is expressly barred by its Agreement with W50, the lawyer writes. Dentsu s sabotage did not stop with its unauthorized and improper cancellation announcement. Dentsu also pillaged the Festival bank account on its way out, taking all of the $17.8 million in the account earmarked for Festival production costs.
There have been more than a few slip ups leading to this decision. Back in 2014, Ultra attendees trampled a security guard and left her in critical condition. The Mayor, along with other Miami city officials, called to ban the festival. A man died at Ultra that same year. The festival 's relocation to Miami 's Virginia Key island this year led to a lack of proper transportation back to the mainland, forcing tens of thousands of concertgoers to trek miles across the Rickenbacker Causeway, as the Miami New Times reports.
"After listening to feedback from many of you (including over 20,000 fans who took our post event survey), it is clear that the festival experience on Virginia Key was simply not good enough, " reads a statement. "This is Ultra Music Festival, after all, and our attendees expect us to deliver on our commitment to excellence. Being committed to excellence not only means constantly striving to become better, it also means being willing to change things when they are not working. "Ultra Music Festival apos;s first edition took place in the spring of 1999 at Collins Park #xA0;in Miami Beach. In 2001 organizers relocated the event to Bayfront Park #xA0;where it took place annually through 2018. The 2019 installment of the now three day gathering was forced to relocate to Virginia Key #xA0;after the Miami City Commission #xA0;voted down its return to Bayfront Park.
After years of setbacks, Florida s Ultra Music Festival is leaving Miami in search of a new permanent home. In an open letter posted today (May 8) on the festival s Twitter account, organizers stated that they had voluntarily terminated our City of Miami license and thank them for being a part of our story for the past two decades. The letter went on to say that the festival is now finalizing a new South Florida location that will serve as an incredible and permanent home for Ultra Music Festival. Find the full letter below. The news follows years of issues related to the festival. Back in 2014, a security guard was trampled by concertgoers, winding up in critical condition. The incident eventually led Miami city officials (including the Mayor) to call for an end to the festival. That same weekend, a man died at Ultra. More recently, a new study found that high sound levels from this year s festival caused a significant stress response in fish swimming in waters near the Ultra s site. The sound created stress levels similar to the ones that fish would experience if they were being chased by a predator.
;On Monday, April 29, 2019, your team sent notice to us at 11 a.m. EDT that they had taken control of the festival (which they have no legal right to do) and at 11:15 a.m. EDT advised that they had cancelled the festival (which they had no legal right to do),; Lang wrote in the letter. ;This same team had also already notified the press without any advance notice to me or my team. While we were on a call together as a group at 12:00 EDT, the media had already begun reporting that Woodstock was cancelled. I then learned that Amplifi illegally swept approximately $17 million from the festival bank account leaving the festival in peril. These actions confirmed my worst concerns about partnering with your company. These actions are neither a legal nor honorable way to do business.; Lang goes on to claim in the letter that Dentsu is now promising "indemnification " to musicians who back out of their previously announced gigs at Woodstock 50.
