Remember the whirlwind of news surrounding the casting of the Dark Knight for Matt Reeves upcoming The Batman in May? When Robert Pattinson s name flurried across the web, Twilight memes and online petitions were the least of his worries. He had yet to audition when the news leaked and he was worried the premature backlash would bruise his chances of nabbing the role. In Pattinson s words:When that thing leaked, I was fucking furious. Everyone was so upset. Everyone was panicking from my team. I sort of thought that had blown up the whole thing.

It is rumored that the film 's previous director, Danny Boyle, left the project because he wanted to kill off James Bond in the end, a decision that Eon wouldn 't stand for. No Time to Die fittingly feels like a politely passive aggressive rebuttal to Boyle, and a promise that just because this is Craig 's last outing it doesn 't mean that the character will die. This also isn 't the first time the word ”die ” has appeared in a Bond film. Moore confronted death of the voodoo variety in his first appearance as Bond in Live and Let Die (1973), and Pierce Brosnan double dipped on death in Tomorrow Never Dies (1997) and Die Another Day (2002). As far as titles go, No Time to Die is about as Bond as you can get without sticking ”gold ” somewhere in there. The rereleased plot synopsis, attached to the press announcement for the title, hints at a more retro approach with the retired Bond, living in Jamaica, being drawn back into active service by Felix Leiter (Jeffrey Wright) in order to rescue a kidnapped scientist who leads them to a ”mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology. ” Though he isn 't mentioned in the press release, Christoph Waltz was confirmed to return as Bond 's nemesis, Blofeld, just last month. The only thing that 's missing to fully sell No Time to Die as the ultimate retro Bond film is confirmation of a giant Ken Adam inspired villain base. What 's interesting about all of these details is that when Craig 's tenure as Bond began in Casino Royale (2006), great strides were made to modernize the character and help him regain his cool in a world where Jason Bourne was the popular action hero, and Hollywood, feeling the success of Batman Begins (2005), was just starting to understand how profitable a reboot could be, at least for a time. But now, three Bond entries and 15 years later, and audiences have grown increasingly partial to nostalgia, arguably to an even greater degree than what the series most successful entry so far, Skyfall, provided back in 2012.
GLOW star Betty Gilpin is also in talks to join the project, whose name is a working title and is casting up ahead of a September start that will shoot in Atlanta and Iceland. Chris McKay, who directed The Lego Batman Movie, is helming the pic. The script, with drafts by Zach Dean and Bill Dubuque, is set in a future where humanity is losing a war against aliens. To turn the tide, scientists draft soldiers from the past to fight the war.

Walt Disney's original animated Lion King opened in June of 1994 in just two theaters a week before its wide release opening. It snagged a record breaking debut weekend of $1.5 million for a ridiculous $793,377 per theater average. That record still stands, by the by. As for its wide release, the acclaimed and buzzy toon opened on the weekend of June 24 with a whopping $40.88 million Fri Sun debut. That was, at the time, the fourth biggest opening weekend ever, behind only Jurassic Park ($50 million in 1993), Batman Returns ($47 million in 1992) and Batman ($43 million in 1989). The Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff directed animated melodrama legged all summer, right alongside fellow heavyweight Forrest Gump. Forrest Gump ended up with $330 million domestic, $678 million worldwide and a handful of major Oscar victories. The Lion King won for Best Score and Best Original Song ( "Can You Feel the Love Tonight ") and earned $312 million domestic and $766 million worldwide, becoming one of the biggest grossing movies of all time and, sans inflation, the biggest animated flick by a mile. Oh, and when it eventually debuted on VHS, it sold a record 32 million copies. That record still holds too.

Today is June 23, 2019, making it the 30th anniversary of Tim Burton s amp; Batman. It s no secret that the 1989 blockbuster was my favorite movie growing up and remains among my favorites to this day. Whether the Nolan movies (especially the first two) or Burton s own amp; Batman Returns amp; remains the superior live action amp; Batman amp; movie, the Michael Keaton Jack Nicholson gothic action fantasy still holds up as a one of a kind blockbuster spectacular. But it s also the movie that, as I ve noted here and there over the years, is responsible for many of the trends that led the theatrical industry to its current impasse. Looking back at its success, I maintain that amp; Batman, not amp; Star Wars amp; (and certainly not amp; Jaws), is the movie most responsible for the current Hollywood blockbuster.First, for those who came in late, amp; Batman amp; isn t the first big budget comic book superhero movie, as Richard Donner s amp; Superman amp; beat it to the punch by about 10.5 years. And it didn t kick off a wave of successful comic book superhero movies, as many most of the would be copycats were period piece pulp fiction adaptations of the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s comic strips and radio shows. Since amp; Batman amp; played, especially in its first third, as a 1940s pulp crime noir, it made some sense that Hollywood would react by giving us amp; Dick Tracy, amp; The Shadow, amp; The Rocketeer amp; and amp; The Phantom. amp; Even amp; The Mask, while technically set in the present and sold as a Jim Carrey vehicle more than a comic book adaptation, was fashioned as an old school gangster saga.
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce s Walk of Fame Selection Committee is inducting Hemsworth into the Motion Picture category alongside other new star recipients Mahershala Ali, Laurence Fishburne, Spike Lee, Julia Roberts, Octavia Spencer, and Batman. Yup, Batman is also getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.Hemsworth was born in Australia as the middle child of actors Luke and Liam Hemsworth. He first appeared in episodes of TV shows like Neighbours and Marshall Law before joining the cast of the long running Australian soap opera Home and Away. His first film role was (briefly) playing George Kirk in J.J. Abrams Star Trek. He would play the lead role in Thor just two years later, a role he has since played in two other Thor movies, four Avengers movies, and other appearances in video games, short films, etc.
During a scene in Captain Marvel a male fighter pilot makes a sexist remark in front of her female colleague saying that cockpit is a place meant for the guys and not girls. Such a remark in a film co directed by a female filmmaker and revolving around a female superhero is bound to have a deep meaning and it surely does. When boys are small they may want to grow up as Batman, Superman, Spider Man, Captain America, or Iron Man. What about the young girls? Finally they too have options to choose from. For, Brie Larson s kickass Captain Marvel is here to give Gal Gadot s hitherto untouchable Wonder Woman a run for the money. Also, Marvel Studios finally have a standalone film based on a female superhero about a decade after Iron Man (2008) hit the theatres and a couple of years after the release of DC Entertainment s Wonder Woman (2017). And, fortunately, it is a good one despite having a somewhat clich d plot that doesn t hesitate to overtly draw from movies franchises like The Matrix, The Terminator, Men in Black, Star Wars, Blade Runner, Transformers, Stark Trek and whatnot. One thing is certain that female super heroes are here to stay and for good. After all, why should the boys have all the fun? Speaking of fun, Brie Larson seems to be having a lot of it beating up man twice her size, often single handedly taking down half a dozen of them without even breaking a sweat. Sharing a majority of screen time with her of course are two gifted male performers: a Morpheus esque Jude Law and a digitally de aged Samuel L. Jackson. The trio is well supported by actors such as Ben Mendelsohn, Lashana Lynch, Annette Bening.
