Speaking at a media awards function here, Mukherjee said people should be careful while sharing information on social media. "Several social and communal tensions have traced their roots to rumours shared over social media by mischievous persons. Even people who innocently share such posts become party to the mischief, " the Bharat Ratna awardee said.

The National Film Awards were announced in New Delhi today by filmmaker Rahul Rawail, who headed this year's jury. Several films won multiple awards, among them a handful of Hindi films. Gujarati film Hellaro won Best Feature Film; Uri won Best Director for Aditya Dhar and Best Actor for Vicky Kaushal who shared the prize with Ayushmann Khurrana, whose films Badhaai Ho and AndhaDhun also won more than one award. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday interacted with the awardees of National Teachers Awards, 2017 on the eve of Teachers ' Day. Congratulating the awardees, PM Modi commended their dedication towards education and for making it their life mantra. "A teacher remains a teacher throughout life, " said Modi. Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar was also present on the occasion.
Around 50 award winners skipped the ceremony on Thursday stating they were ”disappointed ” and ”dejected ” that President Ram Nath Kovind would hand over only 11 honours and that this was conveyed to the awardees only a day before the event. An MIB official said on Thursday that a ”few disgruntled elements ” were responsible for the controversy. One of the officials cited in the first instance expressed surprise at the controversy because Rashtrapati Bhavan had already informed MIB weeks in advance about the President presenting only 11 awards. The official also expressed dismay at the furore on social media over the President presenting only 11 awards. ”It 's a breach of faith by MIB. The impression created that it was a last minute decision taken by the office of the President is wrong and has demeaned the institution. The turn of events has distressed the President and it has been communicated to the PMO. ”

These are: Pankaj Lal from Montclair State University ( Department of Agriculture); Kaushik Chowdhury from Northeastern University (Department of Defense), Manish Arora, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (Department of Health and Human Services) and Aradhna Tripati, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) (National Science Foundation). I congratulate these outstanding scientists and engineers on their impactful work. These innovators are working to help keep the United States on the cutting edge, showing that Federal investments in science lead to advancements that expand our knowledge of the world around us and contribute to our economy, Obama said in a statement on Tuesday. Lal, who earned his Master s from Delhi School of Economics, is an associate professor in the department of earth and environmental studies at Montclair. At UCLA, Tripati s lab uses the chemistry of natural compounds as well as models as tools to understand how the Earth works to understand climate change, the oceans, and the transfer of carbon between the biosphere, atmosphere and oceans. Awardees are selected for their pursuit of innovative research at the frontiers of science and technology and their commitment to community service as demonstrated through scientific leadership, public education or community outreach.
He had also headed the Indian Space Research Organisation in 1972 as its Chairman, and was the Director of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) at the age of 35 years. A recipient of Padma awards including Padma Vibhushan, Menon had done scientific work in cosmic rays, particle physics and distinguished himself with investigations in the field.Menon was a member of the Planning Commission (1982 1989), Scientific Adviser to the Prime Minister (1986 1989), Vice President, Council of Scientific amp; Industrial Research (CSIR) (1989 1990) and Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) during 1990 96). He was also a Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences and the Royal Society of London.
