Indian scientist Dr Hifzur R Siddique, who hails from Assam, has discovered the protein forming cancerous cells in the human body that cause the growth of tumour in the liver. In the human body, it happens either due to excess alcohol consumption or Hepatitis infection.Dr Siddique who has conducted a research with Prof Keigo Machida of University of Southern California in Los Angeles and other collaborators, told The Sentinel on Saturday that the findings of their research evokes hope for the possible effective treatment of this lethal disease. He added that the research could serve as a potential therapeutic target for the drug design and give a direction to the management strategy for liver cancer.

The Prime Minister was speaking at Gogamukh in eastern Assam, after laying the foundation stone for a new Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI). Eminent film critic and documentary filmmaker Altaf Mazid Rija died in Bangalore on April 13 after a heart attack. Mazid was a multi faceted talent: he wrote extensively about cinema, made experimental documentaries and helped restore the first Assamese film Joymoti in 2001. Indian smartphone manufacturer Lava has tied up with Google to introduce the &'Indic Keyboard&' on all Lava manufactured smartphones. The announcement was made by Google CEO, Sundar Pichai during his ongoing visit to India. According to the agreement, all Lava phones will come with the Indic keypad pre-installed in the devices. Back in November, Google had renamed the Hindi keyboard to Indic keyboard with support for 10 Indian languages besides Hindi. The Indic Keyboard can be downloaded from Google Play, and¤tly provides support for Assamese, Bengali, Gujurati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. Commenting on the partnership, Navin Chawla, Senior Vice President & Product Head, Lava International said, &"We began our partnership with Google last year for Android One which has seen good response in the market and the devices have been met with lot of enthusiasm. Our aim to partner with Google has been to ensure we make valuable technology accessible to all and now with Indic Languages keyboard, we want to empower people to do more and be more.
